We, the Local Advisory Board of WBAI, upon consideration of the actions of the National Board of Pacifica and being mindful of the mandate and principles upon which Pacifica was founded, declare a vote of no confidence in the National Board.
Further, we call for the immediate resignation of National Board Chair Mary Frances Berry and Pacifica Executive Director Lynn Chadwick.
We call for an end to censorship on Pacifica.
We call for a democratic restructuring of the National Board of Pacifica.
In the interim transition period the National Board must take no fiduciary actions contrary to the Pacifica mission, such as loans taken against station licenses, attempts to sell station licenses/frequencies, the use of station licenses as collateral, or any actions that jeopardize the trust of the listeners, the security of the staff, the station licenses/frequencies of KPFA 94.1, KPFK 90.7, KPFT 90.1, WBAI 99.5, WPFW 89.3, and the continued viability and vitality of the Pacifica network.
We want to reaffirm that the Pacifica network consists of five sister community radio stations: KPFA 94.1, KPFK 90.7, KPFT 90.1, WBAI 99.5 and WPFW 89.3. The stations are dependent and interdependent on each other. We support all five stations and consider that the strength of Pacifica rests in the preservation of the five broadcast licenses/frequencies.
In order to begin the process of restructuring as quickly as possible and to commence the transition in a responsible manner without jeopardizing the stations, we call for a meeting between the WBAI Local Advisory Board and the current representatives to the National Board from the New York City and the Washington, DC, areas at the earliest time convenient.
We expect the National Board to follow the spirit as well
as the letter of this Resolution.
On behalf of the WBAI Local Advisory Board,
Andrew Norris, LAB co-secretary
