PACIFICA RADIO WARNED ON BROADCAST RULES

The non-commercial Pacifica Foundation, which operates five FM radio stations, including Berkeley's KPFA, was found in noncompliance with Corporation for Public Broadcasting rules, according to a CPB audit announced Tuesday. CPB has given Pacifica until November to comply with rules allowing public access to foundation meetings and greater local board autonomy or risk losing CPB money. The decision is in response to a complaint filed by the Committee to Take Back KPFA, a listeners group upset about programming, personnel and procedural changes at KFPA. Pacifica receives about $1 million a year in public CPB funds.
