- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DELAWARE ORGANIZING FOR MILLION WOMAN MARCH
The determined women of Delaware's Local Organizing
Committee are working diligently to galvanize the necessary
support for the successful execution of the Million Woman March.
The March is to be held Saturday, October 25, 1997, on the
Benjamin Franklin Parkway, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The
festivities will begin at 9:00 a.m.
The Million Woman March is a call for all women
of
African descent to come together regardless of religious or cultural
beliefs, socio-economic backgrounds, work experience, and other
segregating issues. Black women are being challenged to put their
differences to the side and unite in order to create upliftment for
the Black family, community, and race as a whole.
Some of the platform issues to be addressed
are: National
support for Congresswoman Maxine Waters in the effort to probe
into the CIA's participation in the influx of drugs into the African-
American community; development and support of Black
independent schools; formation of Rites of Passage centers for our
young women; examination of Human Rights violations against
Africans in America and throughout the diaspora; effective
programming for our elders and youth; progressive facilities for
women leaving the penal system, and additional resources for
women seeking further education and professional training.
The MWM Local Organizing Committee of Delaware
is in
need of your support. Our meetings are held on Tuesdays, 7 PM
at Christina Cultural Arts Center, 710 Market St. Mall. If you
are
not available to assist on the committee, please pledge a financial
donation. Donations will be used to offset the costs of
transportation and bag lunches for women who cannot afford the
expense by themselves. T-shirts and buttons are also available
for
purchase as a contribution to this event. Contact Sis. Olakunle
