VISITS STEAL THIS RADIO 88.7 NYC
New York City, March 5 1998
NYFMA & Friends,
Several hours ago, Steal This Radio 88.7fm received its first visit
from
the FCC .
The ordeal began when Arrow, an STR organizer, received a phone call
from
someone asking questions about the station. Shortly after that an agent
appeared at the location of the East 7th street station, and without
immediately revealing his identity, tried to enter the building and
ask
questions of a DJ outside the building. The agent was denied
entry. . An
STR organizer spoke at length with the agent. The agent claimed that
Hofstra University's station, which also broadcasts at 88.7,
complained
of signal interference from STR's 20-watt broadcasts. Hofstra university's
station is 35 miles away from Steal This Radio. The agent gave the
STR
member his phone number and threatened to return with Federal Marshals
if
he was not soon contacted by the station.
Steal This Radio is holding an emergency planning meeting tomorrow,
Friday
March 7 at 6pm. We will develop an immediate response plan that
will
require many volunteers. Those interested in helping should attend
NYFMA's
micropower radio working group scheduled to meet March 11, at 5:30
in the
Loeb Student Center at NYU, 566 La Guardia Pl, main level in the lounge.
Call NYFMA's hotline for updates: 212. 969. 8636.
La Lucha Sigue,
