Subject:         Letter to KPFA and PACIFICA

Dear Ms. Chadwick and Ms. Berry:

You seem like two decent human beings. So just what in hell's beans do you
think you are doing? Are you nuts? You must rue the day you decided to get
involved in Pacifica Radio. All those years of hard work fighting for
people's rights and -- poof! -- you will now be remembered as the
individuals who sent police in to shut down a newscast! That's it. That's
your whole damn legacy wrapped up in that one sentence. Jeez, I'd want out
of that, wouldn't you?

So, here's the good news. The American people are a forgiving lot, even
all those protestors barking at your door. We love redemption and are
always dying to give it to those who want it. So, pick up the phone after
9am tomorrow, call Amy on Democracy Now, and tell everyone you are sorry,
you don't know what got into you, and announce that everyone is getting
their job back at KPFA. Use any excuse you want for why you went
temporarily insane -- blame it on the Y2K bug, the record heat wave in
D.C. -- or even me! Yeah, that's a good idea! Blame it on me! Tell
everyone that I called and threatened to "take no prisoners" unless you
stopped that Dennis Bernstein. Then I'll say that what I thought I was
doing was calling that other public radio station in the Bay Area -- you
know, the boring NPR one -- and I was demanding, "No more *Leonard*
Bernstein!!" Hey, an honest mistake! I'm sure everyone will understand
(and while you're at it, throw in your resignations and I'll toss in a box
of books to give away as premiums for the fund drive that will now have to
be held to make up for the lost wages).

In the meantime, I hereby revoke all permission forms I have signed in the
past when being interviewed on KPFA (these interviews took place in 1986,
1989, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998). I insist that you do
not play anything I have recorded for Pacifica on any scab station such as
KPFA and that no other Pacifica station feed any of my interviews or
commentaries with them to KPFA. I will encourage my fellow authors,
filmmakers and political activists to do likewise.

Thanks for honoring my request and don't forget about the free box of
books!

Yours,

Michael Moore
