An extraordinary letter fell into our hands. It turns out that KPFA made a special mailing to "key people" to ask their "help" at the listener fora they were holding.

These people even had their own special phone number to reserve their seats, and at at least one occasion regular "non-key listeners were turned away while seats were held for key people.

Here is the text of the letter:

Dear ...

We are writing to our special group of key people like you who we thought would be most interested in helping us. You might have read in the Folio (bi-monthly program guide) that we will be holding a number of listener forums throughout our listening area. It is at these community forums where we will seek direct listener input.

These six forums will be organized and facilitated to allow listeners and supporters like yourself to share your thoughts and ideas about what we're doing well, what we could do better and how we can best serve the diverse interests of the kpfa community of listeners. To give the maximum number of people an opportunity to participate, we ask that you only attend one of the forums. Since participation is limited to 96 people per location, we will be doing advance registration for all the forums. The forums will begin promptly at 7pm at all locations and are scheduled to end no later than 9:30pm on the following dates and locations:
