Date: 3/28/97 To: KPFA Staff and Volunteers From: Marci Lockwood Subject: Ginny's Resignation

As many of you may have heard, Ginny Berson has officially resigned as KPFA's Program Director effective July 31, 1997.

Ginny has been with Pacifica for almost 16 years, beginning as Director of the Women's Dept., Producer of the National Town Hall series and two stints as Program Director. Ginny's expertise in programming and her unwavering leadership has been key in guiding KPFA through successful changes in our daily program schedule in the the summer of 1995, and laying the ground work for on-going changes that will be implemented throughout 1997. Her keen sense of fairness and firm committment to KPFA and Pacifica's mission will be sorely missed.

On a personal note, Ginny has consistently been a source of great strength to me; she has displayed unbiased professionalism, has been my most constructive critic, and a personal friend.

I know you all will join me in wishing Ginny the best of luck in whatever she chooses for the future.

Date: 6/18/97 To: KPFA Staff and Volunteers From: Marci Lockwood Subject: Resignation

As many of you may already suspect, I have given notice to Pat Scott of my resignation as general manager of KPFA. My last day of work will be July 15, 1997. I have been offered and have accepted the position of Executive Director of the Institute for Global Communications (IGC).

The decision to leave Pacifica after these many years of work beginning as a volunteer in 1981, through subscriptions dept. director, assistant manager and finally for the last 4 years as general manager, has been an extremely difficult one. I remain committed to the Pacifica mission and believe we have come a long way over the last several years in insuring that KPFA and Pacifica continue as a viable alternative source of information and cultural programming into the 21st century.

I am currently working with the Pacifica National office on a transition plan that will provide for KPFA's continued stability over the next several months as a new managment [sic] team is organized. I know that each of you will do your part to help with a smooth transition.

Lockwood first came to KPFA in 1981, and has served as its general manager since 1993.

Lockwood has accepted the position of executive director of the Institute for Global Communications (IGC), a non-profit supplier of on-line services to progressive organizations and individuals.

Lynne Chadwick, President of NFCB (National Federation of Community Broadcasters) and Carol Pierson, NFCB Director of Affiliate Services will act as Manager and Program Director respectively until a new GM and PD can be hired. Lynne and Carol will be working at the station part time, while continuing their duties at NFCB in San Francisco. Please give them your help and cooperation so the station can function smoothly during the transition. They will be here a combined total of 30 hours a week until a new team can be hired; they will be at the NFCB Offices in San Francisco the rest of their work time.

3. MORE STAFF CHANGES. Andrea Kissack, Morning Show Producer, is taking a one year leave of absence to get a Masters Degree in Public Broadcasting Management. Even as we speak, we are in the process of hiring an interim replacement. Jude Thilman has resigned her 1/4 time position from Flashpoints in order to work full time on The DNA Files (the Genome Radio Project). Since Sheryl Flowers already resigned her 1/4 time position with Flashpoints in order to become the Producer of Living Room, we are now posting a 1/2 time job as Associate Producer/Technical Producer for Flashpoints. Job postings are around the station, and the deadline for applying is August 1.
