The following notice appears in the December 1996 Programmers Memo sent by Program Director Ginny Z Berson to all KPFA programmers.
PROGRAMMING CHANGES
During the next few months the Program Council will be re-evaluating
our programs and schedule. The contracts of all current programmers have
been extended until the end of March, and, depending on how quickly we
move, may be extended a bit longer. Please try not to be alarmed that we
are only extending people through the end of March. I do not anticipate
changes of the magnitude of August 1995, but I do believe there will be
some programs leaving the air and new programs added. At this point, I
honestly do not know what those changes will be, and I will not know for
some time.
Before we even start discussing them, we are going to conduct a written survey of all subscribers and a series of discussions/forums with listeners in a variety of locales in our signal area. The information we gather from these sources will have a significant impact on our decisions. In addition, we will use the AudiGraphics information from the last year and a half, fund-raising information, and our best judgment as radio professionals.
What we are trying to do, as always, is provide significant programming for significant audiences. "Significant" means furthering the mission of KPFA and Pacifica.
