"Local steward says he finds clear case of union-busting"
To the editors:
Pat Scott's letter regarding Jackie Conciatore's article on the
current union-busting attempts by the Pacifica Foundation says many
things which I'm sure others will address.
When Ms. Scott contends, "Pacifica is not out to bust any union,
especially our own," members of th WBAI collective bargaining unit
have to laugh. Removing 90 per cent of the current c.b.u. from union
protection, demanding that some workers become "employees at will,"
and requiring that shop stewards prevent even an informational picket
line and handing out of leaflets, or be subjedct to immediate
dismissal, is union-busting any way you look at it. Ms. Scott may
festoon her actions with all the rhetoric she likes, but these are the
facts.
WBAI's union, United Electrical, Radio, and Machine Workers of
America, Local 404, has filed unfair labor practices charges with the
National Labor Relations Board against Pacifica and WBAI management
for their refusal to bargain in good faith over the past several
months.
