MEMO FROM NAN RUBIN, WBAI BOARD CHAIR
RE:
Management Crisis at WBAI
_______________________________

7/30/98

TO: Members of the WBAI Local Advisory Board

FROM: Nan Rubin, Chair

In response to impassioned pleas from the staff relating their total loss of confidence in the General Manager, their current absence of morale, and their presentation that WBAI was in a management crisis, the LAB went into Executive Session at the end of our meeting held on Tuesday, July 28.

After discussion, the LAB decided that at this time the most appropriate action which the LAB could take was to demand an immediate intervention from Pacifica in response to the increasing deterioration in the situation.

Accordingly, the WBAI members of the Governing Board, Andrea Cisco and Frank Millspaugh, contacted Dr. Berry immediately the next morning (Wed 7/29) to convey the urgency and importance of this request. Dr. Berry agreed to take some immediate steps, which are being set in motion as this memo is being written.

We will NOT meet on Thursday, 8/6 as tentatively discussed. But by the time you receive this memo, I hope that we can report to you exactly what steps will be taken, who will be involved and any specific role for us, if appropriate, as they are put in place.

Unless necessary to meet any sooner, there will be a complete briefing at our regularly-scheduled Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday, August 25. in the meantime, please feel free to contact any of us directly (Andrea, Frank, or myself) for more information.
