Pacifica/ WBAI Management breaks the law again
At the WBAI Local Board meeting on January 27, Valerie Van Isler announced that Business Director Sybil Wong had tendered her resignation, effective February 1, 1998.
Van Isler then announced that she was going to post a the job as an Assistant Manager position!
This is blatantly illegal. The work is part of the Collective Bargaining Unit (CBU), and this exact job is the Paid Staff one that went to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), along with the more attention-gathering one about Unpaid Staff being in the CBU, in 1996.
In February 1997, the NLRB ruled that the Business Director job was definitely a part of the CBU, hands down. This is an extremely non-controversial decision. It's just obvious that it's a CBU position and not a Management one. And now, less than a year later, WBAI Management is defying this NLRB ruling!
We have Management's written and verbal statements to the WBAI Local Board, and we have a posting with a job description from Management that says that this is a Management position. An Unfair Labor Practice charge will be filed in the next few days by our U.E. Rep.
This will be another in a growing set of Unfair Labor Practice charges which have been filed against WBAI and Pacifica Management over the past two years.
"Progressives" indeed!
