BUNCE, OUTGOING DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PRAISED BY RADIO NETWORK
Pacifica Names Chadwick, NFCB President, as Director of Operations
BERKELEY, CA --Dick Bunce announced his resignation today as Deputy Executive Director of Pacifica Radio, the country's first listener-sponsored radio network, to accept a position with a Bay Area national parks association. Also today, Lynn Chadwick, KPFA-FM acting general manager, was named Director of Operations, a new post.
"Dick has worked tirelessly for a decade to uphold the high standards of listener-supported radio," said Pacifica Executive Director Pat Scott. "He is a big reason why Pacifica Radio has been able to upgrade studios, improve programming, and better serve its listeners." {Dick has worked tirelessly to make Pacifica appealing to major corporate foundations -- see http://www.radio4all.org/fp/gold.htm and http://www.radio4all.org/fp/pacplan.htm }
"We will all miss him -- as a professional colleague and a good friend -- and we wish him all the best in his new position," Scott added. "At the same time, we're thrilled to welcome Lynn on board as part of our team."
Bunce first joined Pacifica as a volunteer member of KPFA's advisory board in 1985. He later was hired in 1987 to lead KPFA's successful Capital Campaign that funded new studios for the station. Bunce became Pacifica Foundation's Development Director in 1990, and became Pacifica's Deputy Executive Director in 1996.
Bunce has accepted the position of Development Director for the Golden Gate National Park Association, a non-profit organization that promotes a network of national parks in Northern California. {Is this a Tides Foundation operation?}
Chadwick will begin her duties as Pacifica's Director of Operations on a part-time basis in January, and will move to full-time in April. She is currently President and CEO of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB). Chadwick also serves as Acting General Manager of KPFA-FM in Berkeley, Pacifica's flagship radio station. {Chadwick is also one of the originators of the "Healthy Station Project" -- which the Grassroots Radio Coalition was founded to oppose, and was part of the committee which encouraged the use of Arbitron ratings by the CPB as a yardstick for funding.}
Chadwick received the Edward R Murrow Award for Outstanding Contributions to Public Radio from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 1995. Her first radio program, Sophie's Parlor, aired on Pacifica's WPFW in Washington, DC in 1979. {But probably would not be aired today under the Scott regime which discourages "unprofessional" broadcasters}
"I'm looking forward to working more closely with stations and using the experience I've gained in public radio to help Pacifica promote dialog and understanding among people of different backgrounds and beliefs," Chadwick said.
Pacifica Radio. the nation's first listener-sponsored public radio network, operates five stations and distributes programs to more than 60 affiliates and subscriber stations.
