Shortly after 9 p.m. on June 13 a member of "Save Our Station", a WBAI listeners' group, broadcasting on WBAI, read the entire Free Pacifica Joint Statement and encouraged all listeners to attend the public comment portion of the Pacifica National Board meeting the next day.
The broadcast followed a reception, held at the new WBAI Wall Street
studio, for the Pacifica National Board members. The reception consisted
of little more than Mary Francis Berry lauding Pat Scott, who lauded the
WBAI General Manager, Valerie van Isler, who lauded Pat Scott, etc.,
etc. When a S.O.S. member suggested that perhaps the listeners who
paid for the new studio should be thanked, Mary Berry stood speechless
and van Isler stated that she had thanked "everybody". If was all comfortably
corporate. The National Board went off to dinner and S.O.S. went on the
air...
